Gabriel Garcia Marquez suffering from dementia

Gabriel Garcia Marquez' younger brother said the Nobel Prize-winning novelist suffers from senile dementia but still maintains his enthusiasm, according to RIA Novosti.

"From a physical standpoint he's doing well, although he now has some memory lapses,” Jaime Garcia Marquez told students at a lecture in the city of Cartagena.

Jaime is the first family member to speak publicly about it.

He said that his brother, who is 85, phones him frequently to ask basic questions.

"He has problems with his memory. Sometimes I cry because I feel like I'm losing him," Jaime Garcia Marquez said.

However, the iconic author is still filled "with tremendous joy and enthusiasm, as he always has been. Always full of humor,” Jaime Garcia Marquez said.
