Armenia interested in Greece’s economic, political stability: Joint statement by President Sargsyan, Premier Tsipras
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras made joint statements following the bilateral negotiations between the two delegations.
In his speech President Sargsyan described his Greek visit as filled with open and constructive discussions held with both President Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Tsipras.
“We fully covered the Armenian-Greek bilateral agenda and cooperation perspectives. I am pleased to record that our approaches primarily coincide on bilateral, international and regional matters. At the same time, we shared the view that further works are needed to transfer positive momentum and dynamics to our collaboration both on bilateral and multilateral platforms,” President Sargsyan stated, as quoted by his press department.
Serzh Sargsyan then confessed that the lack of trade and economic links between the two states is the area of weakness in the bilateral cooperation and that the fact is of an objective nature.
“I informed Prime Minister Tsipras that we closely follow Greek government efforts aimed at overcoming the existing problems and are confident your state will succeed in addressing all the challenges. Armenia remains deeply interested in the economic and political stability of Greece,” Sargsyan stated.
Armenian President highlighted the military aspect as one of the traditional spheres of Armenian-Greek cooperation. President thanked to the Greek leadership for the constant assistance it provided to Armenia in the sphere of civil and military education. President Sargsyan, in particular, recalled that more than 200 Armenian military servicemen got educated in Greece for the last 20 years.
“We should never leave the idea that the security of our two nations is interlinked,” Sargsyan stated.
Reflecting on the Karabakh conflict, President Sargsyan said: “Armenia attaches special importance to Greece’s balanced position on the negotiated settlement of the Karabakh issue and its support to the OSCE Minsk Group continuous efforts toward resolving the conflict.”
President Sargsyan stated that Armenia would never forget the brotherly people of Greece who extended its hand and gave refuge to the survivors of the Armenians Genocide.
“I greatly appreciate the principal position of Greece on the recognition and condemnation of that severe crime (the Armenian Genocide) ahead of the Centennial Anniversary of our national tragedy. Greece reiterated its commitment through adopting the Law against Racism and Xenophobia (September 9, 2014), which criminalized the denial of the Armenian Genocide, thus sending an exemplary message to the civilized world.”
President Sargsyan then added that he had invited Prime Minister Tsipras to pay a return visit to Armenia in a spirit of friendship.
“I am pleased that he accepted the invitation and once again highlighted that we should constantly work for the sake of that friendship”, President Sargsyan said.
