Sharmazanov draws parallels with Scottish referendum - Why Artsakh may not decide their own fate?
Republican Party spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov commented on the remark by the President of Armenia on the possibility of deploying peacekeeping forces in Nagorno Karabakh. According to Sharmazanov, the Karabakh conflict requires a comprehensive solution, while the possible deployment of peacekeeping forces will be just one factor in it. RPA spokesperson’s comments came on April 8 at a briefing with the reporters.
“We should eliminate the causes first - not the consequences. Artsakh people exercised their right to self-determination, wishe to hold referendum in line with all international norms, which will result in a decision to live in a free and independent state. Why an Azerbaijani, a British citizen, in Scotland people may have the right to choose their future, to decide their own fate and the same is not applied to Artsakh? The cornerstone of this conflict should be the status of Artsakh,” Sharmazanov underscored.
RPA spokesperson then raised the necessity to condemn Azerbaijan by international community for the aggression. “Sanction should be imposed on Azerbaijan for the war crimes being committed against the civilians,” Sharmazanov noted.
