Azerbaijan’s failure at UN Security Council: Civilians should be protected from armed conflicts

The United Nations yesterday called on the Security Council to put more muscle into protecting civilians in armed conflict. UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, human rights chief and other UN officials and SC member states made speeches related to the topic.

The speakers to the Security Council session signified the protection of the civilians in armed conflict and the role of the UN, especially, Security Council role in this regard.

The topic is timely as civilians suffer armed conflicts held in different corners of the world. It’s worth mentioning that most often women, children and adults suffer the armed conflicts.

Azerbaijan’s representative to the UN presented Azerbaijani version of Khojalu events.

Armenian Ambassador to the UN Karen Nazaryan released a statement opposing to Azerbaijan’s observations towards Khojalu events.

It was stated that according to Azerbaijan’s ex-president Mutalibov, Khojalu was organized and carried out by Azerbaijan’s opposition, aiming to blame Baku authorities for those violations and murders.
