D. Babayan: Azerbaijan’s goals in UNSC doomed to fail from the very start
“The policy of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council will be aimed at transferring the Nagorno-Karabakh issue to the UN, however, this goal is doomed to fail,” NKR President’s spokesman David Babayan told Panorama.am.
Note that Azerbaijan was elected as UNSC non-permanent member on October 24 after Slovenia withdrew its candidacy.
“The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries have repeatedly condemned all efforts towards transferring the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to the UN. The Minsk Group is currently the best format for resolving the conflict,” the spokesman said.
“I have no doubt that Azerbaijan will carry out such policy in the United Nations Security Council, otherwise, it should not have sought to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Azerbaijan is not a country which can play a pivotal role in ensuring stability and fighting terrorism in different corners of the world, on the contrary, Azerbaijan with its policy boosts terrorism, pushing its society towards extremism,” Babayan concluded.
