Armenian Ambassador to UN stresses ties of Azeri authorities with al-Qaeda linked terrorist groups
UN hosted a session of Security Council anti-terrorism committees on May 10 chaired by Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan attempted to abusing its position as a chair refuse Armenia a right to make a report, conscience of official Yerevan’s response to Azerbaijani president’s cynical statements issued last week at UN, Foreign Ministry press department said.
Under the pressure of Security Council members, Azerbaijan gave the floor to Armenia’s permanent representative to UN Ambassador Karen Nazaryan.
Ambassador Nazaryan expressed concern in his statement that Azerbaijan’s territory is used as transport route for terrorist and radical religious groups. Armenian Ambassador underlined that those groups are engaged in human trafficking, illegal transfer of weaponry and money.
Nazaryan also stressed the ties of Azerbaijani authorities with al-Qaeda linked terrorist groups who fought against Nagorno-Karabakh in the beginning of 90s, hence urging for increased caution against boosting terrorist activities in the region.
A document was issued at UN Security Council today expressing discontent over May 4 statement of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, which caused open resentment among Security Council members.
