European Union foreign ministers agreed on new 16th round of sanctions on Syria, Russian news agency RIA Novosti said.

The European Union sanctions target six government ministries and firms and one individual, while clarifying an existing EU arms embargo.

The ministers also formally approved a deal reached last week to ban insurance and reinsurance of arms shipments to Syria. The EU adopted an arms embargo on Syria last year.
