Clinton to have talks with Egypt’s president in Cairo

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is due in Cairo on July 14 for talks with Egypt's newly elected Islamist president, Muhammad Morsi, Radio Liberty reported.

Clinton will be the highest-ranking U.S. official to meet Morsi, who is affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Clinton is looking for assurances that Morsi will uphold Egypt's 1979 peace treaty with Israel.

Religious freedom and minority rights are also on her agenda.

Morsi is entangled in a power struggle with military generals who took charge in Egypt after President Hosni Mubarak's ouster in early 2011.

On July 11, Morsi said he would respect a court ruling that overturned his decree ordering the dissolved Islamist-dominated parliament to reconvene.

Clinton plans to stay in Egypt for two days.

She also plans to meet senior government officials, civic leaders and businessmen in Cario and Alexandria.
