Iranian Majlis Speaker departs for Turkey: Iran against deployment of Patriot defense missiles near Turkey’s border with Syria
The deployment of the Patriot defense missiles near Turkey’s border with Syria will not contribute to the resolution of the Syrian conflict, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters, according to Tabnak.ir.
Referring to Turkey's request for NATO to deploy Patriot defense missiles near its common border with Syria, Mehmanparast said, in part, “The deployment of the missiles not only will not contribute to the resolution of the Syrian conflict, it will further complicate the situation.”
“The military resolution of the conflict in Syria will increase the regional tension and therefore it would be right for the influential countries involved in the Syrian conflict to search for ways to resolve the crisis politically,” said the spokesman.
Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani departed for Turkey today after completing his visits to Syria and Lebanon, Iran’s Mehr news agency said.
During his visit, Larijani is expected to hold discussions on regional issues with Turkish authorities.
