Televised debates in Azerbaijan:Pro-governmental presidential candidate jailed for telling about Heydar Aliyev’s Armenian mother
The final ninth presidential debates were held on Azerbaijani Public Television, which incumbent President Ilham Aliyev did not attend, said the Azerbaijani news agency "Turan".
The article states that the presidential candidate of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) Jamil Hasanli, drew the attention to this fact, and wryly noted that the voters "did not lose a lot" of it, because Aliyev does not differ by intelligence that much from his "trustees" present there.
This angered the head of the "Modern Musavat" party Hafiz Hajiyev, who once again, called Jamil Hasanli “father-in-law of an Armenian." In his turn Hasanli reminded that Hajiyev was re-arrested in 1996 after he had told that Heydar Aliyev's mother was Armenian. After that, as the agency notes, Hajiyev flushed, became nervous, and started to speak in short sentences telling the same thing all the time: "Hasanli, Ali Kerimli, Isa Gambar, are traitors, and the nation does not support them."
Hasanli in his speech presented his program with short abstracts, and promised a gold amnesty in case he wins. In addition, he promised to reduce charge for electricity, gas, water by 2 times, abrogate restrictions on ethnic Azerbaijani Georgian citizens that stay in Azerbaijan, increase the salary of teachers, doctors, civil servants, pensions by 2-3 times, he also promised a 20-fold increase in fund mortgages as well as reduction of percentage of Mortgage credits for the young people.
According to the Azerbaijani service of Radio "Liberty", Iqbal Agazadeh, the presidential candidate of "Umid" party is sure that the voters will vote against the Azerbaijani government, because in case of victory of the current power nothing will be changed, condition of pensioners will not improve, the level of corruption will not decrease.
In his turn, Ilyas Ismailov, the presidential candidate of the "Adalat" party, in his speech called corruption one of the hazards of Azerbaijan, decomposing society. "Today the richest part of the population are not the entrepreneurs but the officials. I think we need to pass a law prohibiting government officials to get engaged in the business. First of all the officials must submit a declaration on their incomes and spendings. This is one of the ways to fight corruption. Independent judicial power should be formed there," Ilyas Ismailov said.
