US drone strike kills at least 5 suspected militants in Pakistan
At least five have been killed in the North Waziristan region of Pakistan by a US drone strike Saturday targeting a compound used by suspected militants, a security official reported, according to Sputnik.
A senior Pakistani security official speaking on anonymity confirmed that five militants had been killed and said the death toll could rise, as reported by Afghan’s Khaama Press.
North Waziristan is one of the conflict-prone Pakistan-Afghan border regions considered a hub for al-Qaeda and Taliban militants.
According to the news agency, some eight other militants were killed in drone strikes in the same region in November. The United States aims to get rid of the militants' hubs in the region used to plan and carry out attacks on NATO forces in Afghanistan.
The drone strike also comes in light of a Taliban attack on a Pakistani army school on Tuesday which left over 130 children dead in the city of Peshawar close to the Afghan border.
