Hovhannisyan: Azerbaijani troops possibly ‘down’ toy aircrafts of their children
Azerbaijan Defense Ministry spread false information about allegedly shooting down Armenian drones twice in the week. On 4 July, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan claimed that even two drones were shot down in the front area in Terter district. Moreover, the Azerbaijani media attached a photo to their materials, which had nothing to do with the incident and showed a drone shot down back in 2011.
The spokesperson for the Armenia Defense Ministry, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, denied the false information. He said it is yet another attempt by Azerbaijan to escalate the situation on the border. “There is a precedent when they tried to present parts of a washing machine as a downed drone,” Hovhannisyan told the news portal Caucasian Knot.
Meanwhile, three days later, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan undertook a second attempt to spread false information by saying that the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan had destroyed one more Armenian drone, this time in the direction of Fizuli district. A photo of an unharmed drone “DJI Inspire1” (Quadcopter) accompanied the materials apparently to avoid repeating the slip.
However, the spokesperson for the NKR Defense Army, Senor Hasratyan, effectively denied the statement of the Azerbaijani side. “The information is not true,” Interfax cites Senor Hasratyan.
Commenting on the Azerbaijani side’s two unsuccessful attempts to deliberately circulate false information in the media without showing any proofs, the spokesperson for the Armenia Defense Ministry, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, said, “It would be a big success for the Azerbaijani army to ‘down’ such a machine. But first, one must understand what flying machine it is. After all, the Azerbaijani troops may be found out to be shooting down the toy aircrafts of their children.”
