“JEHOVAH’S WITTNESS” PROTECTED FROM EUROPE?
“Religious institutes are set apart from our republic. It means that the country does not interfere citizens’ religious choice,” said Hranush Kharatyan, the head of national minorities and religious questions department.
According to her the legislative part is rather regulated in our country but it is not perfect. “Laws on religion and country’s legislative field globally do not have discriminations in them,” she said. Bit she does not agree with “Amnesty” international religious NGO. According to Kharatyan, the NGO spread news as if “Jehovah’s Wittnesses” face discrimination in Armenia.
“I think that the evaluation of the NGO is not balanced,” she said.
According to Hranush Kharatyan, the evaluation is mainly coonected with several private cases with the “Jehovah’s Wittnesses”. She said that the other citizens not following the religion mentioned complain that the witnesses disturb them too much. And those citizens complain that their appeals are not taken into consideration as if “Jehovah’s witnesses” are financed from Europe. She said that there are complains but not discrimination on this point in the country.
Note that 64 registered religious organizations work in Armenia.
