February 21 marked as mother tongue day
Armenian Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobian told the reporters today that 2010 is marked as the year of mother tongue.
“During a year of hard working we understood one thing that mother land, belief and mother tongue are those three components to unite the nation,” Minister said.
The initiative is also to target Diaspora Armenians. “It’s regretting that the number of Armenian students in Diaspora educational institutions is getting lower day by day. Fewer people speak their mother tongue and the figure of mixed marriages is getting raised,” she said.
Hranush Hakobian stated it’s the fourth year February 21 is officially marked as mother tongue day. She said UNESCO declared February 21 to be fete of mother tongue.
