Azerbaijan's Eurovision 2010 contestant target of criticism: cold shower for Azerbaijan
Covetousness of Azerbaijani authorities to ‘buy’ everything possible or impossible had another manifestation in Eurovision 2010, however, it proved like ‘cold shower’. Who will answer for $10-million project of Safura?, Azerbaijani Turan writes.
Although the Azerbaijani authorities spent $10 million for the singer Safura, she has won only the fifth place at Eurovision 2010 song contest. However, European tabloids predicted Safura’s victory. To make things even brighter let’s note that Norway spent $17 million for organization of the contest.
The best dress designer and composer as well as the most expensive room in the hotel did not convince the audience that Safura is the best of the best. Money didn’t do its job quite well.
Safura’s song and performance was also on average. So, is it true that $10 million has been spent for Safura? Generally, the song was nothing specific, but just like ordinary songs, while the contest needs something remarkable and unique.
Azerbaijanis are very excited to find who decided to allocate $10 million to Safura and why. Azerbaijan has many times been represented in international contests while none of the participants was provided such big amount of money.
However, today no one wants to confess that $10 mln. was 'wasted'. The society has the right to know.
To compare, let us note that annually only $0,5 million is allocated to young scholars for doctoral studies, while for abroad studies $15 million is provided.
Lots of Azerbaijanis are starving in great many regions of the country, while Azerbaijan spends $10 mln. for a contest.
