Helicopter crashes into Gulf of Finland in St. Petersburg
A helicopter crashed into the Gulf of Finland within the city limits of Saint-Petersburg, near Morskaya Naberezhnaya, RIA Novosti reported.
EMERCOM, Russia’s Emergency Control Ministry, received a call about the crash at 2:22 p.m. Moscow Time, its regional headquarters in Saint Petersburg told Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
Rescue workers moved immediately to the emergency site near Lakhtinskiy Razliv. At the moment, seven vehicles and 52 rescuers are at the site.
The model of the helicopter is not known yet, EMERCOM’s operations center reported. The helicopter’s dimensions and its number of passengers also remain unknown. Witnesses say that they saw some wreckage in the water.
The rescuers have pulled a man with a broken hand from the water. There are no reports of any bodies or other survivors as of yet. Divers are preparing to explore the wreckage of the vehicle.
