Double suicide bombing kills at least 12 worshippers in Iraq
Officials say a double suicide bomb attack against a Shiite mosque in northeastern Iraq has killed at least 18 worshippers, The Associated Press reported.
A police officer says a suicide car bomber first attacked the al-Zahraa mosque in the town of Balad Ruz as worshippers were leaving after the Friday sermon. A second suicide bomber on foot attacked the crowds gathered in the aftermath. At least 41 others were wounded, the official added.
Balad Ruz is located 70 kilometers (44 miles) northeast of Baghdad.
A medical official confirmed the causality figures. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but it bore the hallmarks of ISIS, which considers Shiite Muslims heretics.
