State Department: United States urges Government of Azerbaijan to respect rights of its citizens
"We are deeply concerned about the restrictions imposed by the Azerbaijani government towards civil society. The US is also concerned that the Azerbaijani government is not fulfilling its international obligations in the field of human rights," stated the press secretary of the US State Department Jen Psaki during a briefing.
Psaki also called on the Azerbaijani government to respect the rights of the citizens and provide them with the conditions for the free expression of their views. "The Azerbaijani authorities can ensure the future stability and prosperity, creating the conditions for an open society," said Psak.
According to her, US officials have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the leadership of Azerbaijan.
