The number of tourists visiting Armenia may reach 450 thousand by the end of the year and next year it will be over half million, Ara Petrosyan, deputy minister of trade and economic development, told a news conference today. He assured that in the first half of the year 181 thousand tourists visited our country which is by 36 percent higher indicator against the reported period last year. The speaker said that the relative weight of tourism in GDP of our country fluctuates between 4.5-5 percent in modest figures.

The executive has approved Tourism Development Program 2008 and the list of events for its implementation which envisages 20 percent growth in the number of tourists. The program pinpoints to two areas – marketing and promotion and more active and stronger international relations.

The deputy minister announced that winter tourism development infrastructures are going to be built on mount Aragats with the purpose of prolonging the tourism season in Armenia.
