''THEY WILL TAKE OUR WEALTH AND LEAVE,'' ENVIRONMENTALIST SAYS
''The decision of the government on the operation of Teghut mines lacks legal supports. It is based on fake documents and is subject for reconsideration,'' Hakob Sanasaryan, chairman of ''Union of Greens'' NGO, made this statement today at the National Media Club. He said their organization is going to appeal the decision in court, and may apply to the Constitutional Court, in case of need.
In H. Sanasaryan's words, he has submitted all scientifically proven evidence on negative impacts of the mine operation to the president and prime minister of the republic. ''On behalf of the Union of Greens, I can announce that the president is completely silent. So far we do not know if he is aware of the problem, or not. He does not want to recognize us. I am making calls to the prime minister's office twice a week to know if the prime minister will appoint a meeting with me. The assistant is not in place all the time,'' the environmental advocate said.
Speaking about the statements made by minister of trade and economic development Nerses Yeritsyan that after the mines are put into commission the area will turn into a center of tourism, Sanasaryan said, on the contrary, the area will turn into a dead zone. Speaking about a program that promises to recover forests there, Sanasaryan said: ''Such program does not exist. They are all made up stories. In fact the following will take place – they will take our wealth and leave.''
