“IT SECTOR HAS POTENTIAL BUT INFRASTRUCTURES ARE NOT DEVELOPED YET,” NATO OFFICIAL SAYS

“The enlargement of the information network in scientific and educational sectors boosts the capacities of a scientist or sector employees,” Radik Martirosyan, president of the National Academy of Science, told a conference on education networks today organized by NATO Yerevan office.

In his words, Armenia needs faster networks, as well as faster internet. “Building an information society as well as making Armenia available in international networks are the main development lines,” Martirosyan said. Armenian deputy foreign minister, Arman Kirakosyan, also underscored IT sector in the context of economic development. In the opinion of NATO representative Jaiek Gaievski Armenia is a unique country in terms of IT sector since it has potential but the infrastructures are not developed yet.

The conference aims to discuss and find solutions of challenges as well as to bring the educational and political systems into coordination. Representatives from USA, Georgia, Turkey and other countries participate. The conference will run until November 14.
