“20mln 300 thousands drams are collected in TV Marathon organized by the Union of Theatre Workers. But this is the preliminary figure, as many still call and want to know our account, many even are just informed about this project,” said Sona Meloyan, dramaturgy professor and the secretary of the theatre workers union creative work department. According to her the sum collected is enough for them to carry out their future projects. “Within a year nearly the same amount is disposed to the union from the Culture Ministry,” said she.

In these days constructive works are held in the union and a new modern stage will be built in the last floor of the building. “A small amount will be disposed to help the employees who have critical social problems,” she said.

The official opening of the stage is planned in 27 March, 2008: the international day of theatre. A special committee will be created which will evaluate the plays and decide finance it or not. Thus a “Theater” foundation will be working to improve the development of the theatre.

Note: the concert – marathon took place in the National Academic Theatre named after G. Sundukyan and the TV marathon was broadcast by Public 2 TV.

The comments about this project differ, as for according to Hrant Tokhatyan this kind of projects are shameful for the theatres, whereas Davit Hakobyan, the director of Chamber Music Theatre said that this is another way of gathering money.
