“EASY TO REPORT VIOLATIONS, HARD TO FIND SOLUTIONS”
A public hearing on improvements in the supervision of criminal execution system was held at the justice ministry today. The hearings were initiated by the Armenian Association on Public Relations. Justice Minister Gevorg Danielyan attached importance to the topic. The minister said one of the urgent problems is to respond to the information where the source is not identified. Danielyan said in such cases it is difficult to identify the violation.
In Danielyan’s words, the society does not pay sufficient attention to the system. He said the number of NGOs and media outlets willing to visit prisons is not great. The minister believes NGOs should have the chance to take part in service exams with an opportunity to make an impact.
Asked how long it will take to make the Armenian prisons in compliance with the international standards, the minister answered that most work has been done but some issues wait for their solutions, like health, which may take some 3-4 years.
“It is easy to report violations but difficult to find solutions,” the minister said.
