The producers of alcoholic beverages will not raise their prices during pre-holiday period, Viacheslav Anbu, vice chairman of National Association of Russian Alcoholic Beverages, shared this opinion. However, he also mentioned that the prices of alcohol have gone up in shops since the shop owners try to gain maximum profit during the pre-holiday period.

“At the last 2-3 weeks of the year as much alcohol is consumed as in 2-3 month in average. The producers are not interested to raise the prices during this short period. There will be only speculative rise in prices,” Anbu said.

Armenian Economic Competition Protection State Committee includes only vodka in its list of commodities under study which includes 30 items. Armine Udumyan, press secretary of the committee told Panorama.am that the studies conducted in the supermarket show that the price of vodka has not gone up. “The monitoring is conducted only in supermarkets because their behavior largely determine the market,” Udumyan said, also saying in case small shops decide to raise prices, there will be competition and it will be possible to buy the same products at a more reasonable price from the supermarkets.

The committee will announce the results of its monitoring on January 15, 2008. So far, among the 30 products only prices of banana have gone up by 200-300 drams.
