RATE OF HIV/AIDS INCREASED
In 2008 136 cases of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and 83 of AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) have been diagnosed in Armenia. According to the AIDS prevention state center in 1988-2008 674 cases of HIV and 293 cases of AIDS have been diagnosed.
According to the data provided by the center 74.9% of people suffering HIV are male and 25.1% of them are female, and only 1.9% has been revealed in children. The 60% of the HIV sufferers are aged 25-39.
The Ministry of Health reports that in recent years the rate of HIV/AIDS in Armenia has been increased. 46% of HIV cases have been registered in Yerevan and 9.9% in Shirak.
