RUSSIA TO SUFFER XENOPHOBIA
Russia suffers increased rate of xenophobia, said the General Prosecutor of Russian Federation Yuri Chaika in a meeting with the journalists. “In Russia we do have problems with extremism, international relations and xenophobia. We see it and acknowledge it,” he said.
According to the General Prosecutor, two years ago a correspondent department in the frames of the procurator’s office was established to deal with the current problem. Recently another department has been established in the frames of Ministry of Internal Affairs by the decree of the President of Russia. “We cooperate with the Ministry, we try to create united forces and I think that those activities will get stronger,” he said.
The General Prosecutor mentioned that they have some problems with the correspondent laws and they prepare annual report to the President where all the gaps and shortcomings would be included.
According to the data of the Moscow Bureau of Human Rights, in 2008 122 people became victims of xenophobia.
