SCIENCE NEEDS BETTER SUPPORT
“Science was well financed during the Soviet years, but today the situation is changed,” Samvel Harutyunyan, the president of State Committee of Science told at news conference.
According to him once 450-500 million USD was disposed to finance science, but today that figure forms 27 million. According to Harutyunyan, Armenia used to be one of the most advanced Soviet Union states.
After the collapse of Soviet Union brain drain started, if in 90th 28 thousand scientists were recorded officially, today only 7500 are. The reason of brain drain was bad financing.
