European Team Championship: Armenia lost to Russia
In Round 8 of the 17th European Team Championship in Novi Sad, Armenian men’s team lost to Russia 1,5:2,5. Gabriel Sargsian ended in draw with Dmitry Jakovenko. Levon Aronian and Tigran L. Petrosian played to draw with Peter Svidler and Evgeny Tomashevsky respectively. Vladimir Akopian lost to Alexander Morozevich.
Azerbaijan’s team won against Poland 3:1 and now has taken the lead with Russia’s team with 13 points. Armenia has 11 points and ranks 3-7 with Ukraine’s, Holland’s, Spain’s and Israel’s teams.
In the final Round 9 Russia will compete with Spain, Azerbaijan will play with Holland. Armenian team can only hope for a bronze medal and is due to compete with Switzerland in the final round.
