Turkey-Israel crisis: Armenian factor
Turkish analyst Omer Taspinar published in Sabah daily the maturing crisis in Turkish-Israeli relations taking in account Armenian factor also.
The analyst emphasized that the European scientists and reporters are particularly interested in Turkey’s eastern policy rather than in EU-Turkey negotiations. “It seems that Ankara instead of putting its “eggs” in the basket of Europe and USA; is interested in making ties with West and East, especially smoothed platform with Russia.”
Reminding of 1996 when Turkish-Israeli ties were extremely friendly and treaties were being signed one after the other, Taspinar regrets that now those ties are getting quickly spoiled and threatened. According to him the basic front of Israel-Turkey relations is Washington. Turkish analyst writes that once American Jewish lobby’s role was of great significance to balance Armenian and Greek lobbies in USA. “Currently if Ankara doesn’t ratify Armenian-Turkish protocols, Armenian lobby in USA will put the resolution on Armenian Genocide into US Congress’ agenda. If Turkey doesn’t want to get dependent from Jewish lobby, it’s highly recommended to ratify the protocols as soon as possible.”
