EU: Azerbaijani journalists jailed over suspicious charges
The EU President is concerned over the limitations of freedom of speech of journalists and people in general in Azerbaijan. The EU issued a statement saying a number of reporters have been jailed over suspicious charges, Turan reported.
The statement calls attention to Einula Fatulaev, “Real Azerbaijan” and “Gundelik Azerbaijan” Chief Editor, who was sentenced to 8 years in 2007. Though Fatulaev had applied to the European Court of Human Rights, he was sued on other charges December 31, 2009.
The EU urges Azerbaijan to be committed to the implementation of the obligations assumed to the OSCE.
