Erdogan voices hope UK House of Commons will not pass Armenian Genocide Resolution
Prior to and following the Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to London, Turkish media has been raising that Erdogan’s planning to make efforts to prevent the endorsement of the Armenian Genocide Resolution by the UK House of Commons. In his address at the Turkish-English business forum Erdogan expressed his concerns over the possibility of 1915 events to be recognized as genocide by the British legislative body.
“We have always pointed out the scientific and archive sources as to the 1915 events. We are convinced that the issue should be investigated by scientists and historians,” Erdogan said.
“It is not parliaments, but archives that write history. The decisions on 1915 events have political motives and are deprived of any scholarly value and have nothing in common with historical facts. These initiatives prevent nations (Armenia, Turkey) from normalizing their relations and destroy their hopes for the future. Hopefully, Britain will support us on the issue,” Erdogan said.
