Germany rejects Erdogan's offer
Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s offer on opening Turkish schools in Germany was strictly slammed by the country’s political elite representatives.
Turkish PM’s offer came just at the threshold of German Chancellor’s visit to Turkey. The opening of German-Turkish University in Istanbul, a deal on it still signed in 2008, was among the objectives of the visit.
Erdogan said the opening of Turkish schools in Germany would be logical with over 3 million Turks living in the country. Besides, Erdogan suggested the German authorities to review the issue on double citizenship since to become Germany’s citizens, emigrants had to quit Turkey’s citizenship.
German government’s official representative told ‘The Focus’ the opening of schools for teaching Turkish language would impede to the emigrants’ integration to the German society. The view has been supported by many other officials while a Social-Democrat said the Turkish schools would be “a deadlock for learners”.
