Beirut - World Book Capital: Replicas of 19 Armenian manuscripts to be exhibited in Beirut
In the frames of “Beirut - World Book Capital” program, Beirut UNESCO hall is due to host an exhibition of the replicas of old manuscripts from a collection of Matenadaran - “Institute of old manuscripts after M. Mashtots”. 19 replicas will be exhibited: “History of Armenia” by Movses Khorenatsi, “The Life of Mashtots” by Koryun, “History of Vardan and the Armenian War” by Yeghishe, and others, guide translator of Matenadaran Amalya Shahumyan told Panorama.am.
“In Soviet period such exhibitions were more frequent, though, during the recent years there was one such exhibition in Alexandria and there is an upcoming one in Beirut. We present the replicas since huge sums are required for the transportation insurance of the originals,” she said.
17.000 manuscripts, including 13.000 in Armenian and 4.000 in foreign languages, and 100.000 archive materials are preserved in Matenadaran.
