Smbat Margaryan wins silver in European Weightlifting Championships
The European Weightlifting Championships got underway in Minsk, Belarus on April 2. On April 5, Armenian weightlifter Smbat Margaryan, only 17 years old, had an amazing performance, winning a silver medal in the 56 kg category with a total result of 255 kg, only 1g less than the winner. Margaryan lifted 109 kg in the snatch category, and 146 kg in the clean & jerk.
Belarusian Vitali Dzerbianiou scored 256kg (118kg in the snatch+138kg in the jerk) to win the gold medal. Tom Goegebuer of Belgium took bronze (254kg).
