ITU Secretary General says Armenia third in the region in terms of mobile coverage
Armenia is third in the region in terms of mobile coverage, after Russia and Ukraine, the Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Hamadoun Touré, told a round-table discussion on telecommunication issues in Yerevan today.
According to him, Armenia registered an index of almost 100% coverage last year. Hamadoun Touré also said this year the number of mobile customers hit 5 million worldwide.
ITU was established in 1865 and is today the leading United Nations agency for information and communication technology issues, and the global focal point for governments and the private sector in developing networks and services.
Armenia is ITU member since 1992. Note that there are three mobile operators in Armenia: Armentel, VivaCell-MTS, Orange Armenia.
