Armenia committed to Francophone values: Serzh Sargsyan
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received today the Secretary-General of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), Abdou Diouf, who is in Armenia on official visit.
According to President’s press office, President signified Armenia-OIF cooperation and said that Armenia is committed to Francophone values, is interested in spreading these and is ready to expand cooperation in different directions.
“Armenians have had tight ties with France and the French culture, those being so tight that it often becomes hard to tell what culture the names as Charles Aznavour, Michel Legrand, Henri Verneuil, Alen terzyan, Garzou, Jansem belong to. They are, certainly, the vivid representatives of French culture, though, we consider our compatriots as part of Armenian culture as well,”
President said. “The role of persons, is significant, of course, but the Armenian communities of France and French-speaking countries have too big a role in the reinforcement of the relations,” Serzh Sargsyan highlighted.
Mr. Abdou Diouf thanked for warm welcome and said OIF-Armenia relations have greatly intensified since 2008, Armenia’s associate membership to the organization.
He highly assessed the efforts to promote the spread of French language and expressed satisfaction that holding of Francophone days have become traditional in the country already.
Armenian President and OIF Secretary-General discussed further opportunities of cooperation.
