German writer: The time has come for Turkey to apologize from Armenians
Prominent German writer Gunter Grass is in Istanbul, Turkey in the sidelines of “European Literature in Turkey.Turkish Literature in Europe” culture project. The meeting held in Germany’s Embassy in Turkey was attended by German Ambassador to Ankara and the Turkish writer Yasar Kemal. In his address Grass highlighted that Turkey should recognize its past and face it, Milliyet informs.
“In 1940s I was influenced by the Nazis. Later, as I saw the photos of the Jews in concentration camps, I said Germans would not do such a thing, this is propaganda. I said, but I didn’t believe it. Accepting what has happened and facing it is easier. Germany did it. And when is Turkey intent to accept the violations it carried out towards the Armenians?,” German writer said.
Grass also highlighted. “The time has come for Turkey to apologize from Armenians.”
