Museum of Contemporary Art in Armenia hosts exhibition in memory of Henrik Igityan
Armenian People’s Artist Ara Shiraz, Armenian People’s Artist Robert Elibekyan, painter Eduard Kharazyan… the works of these three Armenian painters will be hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Armenia for a month. The exhibition is held in memory of Henrik Igityan, one year after his death. Remind that Armenian arts critic Henrik Igityan died May 11, 2009.
“This is a long-expected exhibition. It’s extremely interesting to see the works of three personalities in a place, what is more, in the Museum of Contemporary Art, established by Henrik Igityan. The exhibition dedicated to him should be held on a very high level. These artists are prides of our painting and can ensure this very high level,” Armenian Culture Minister Hasmik Poghosyan told reporters.
The exhibition is, in fact, long-expected, and the huge crowds of people – artists, arts critics, politicians, citizens – visiting it, evidence about this.
Henrik Soureni Igityan was born on March 5, 1932 in Tbilisi. He studied at the Yerevan Kirov High school. In 1956 he graduated from the faculty of philology of the Yerevan Institute of Russian and foreign languages named after V. Bryusov, and in 1963 from the faculty of art of the Leningrad Academy of Fine Arts. From 1960-1971 worked at the Armenian National Art Gallery. In 1970 he founded the first junior art gallery in the world (with Janna Aghamiryan), in 1972 the Museum of Modern Art, in 1978 the Republican Centre for Child Arts Education, in 1994 "Noyyan Tapan" Armenian Modern Painters' Company. From 1989-1991 Henrik Igityan was USSR national Member of Parliament. He is an author of many albums and artistic articles. He was rewarded with Khachatur Abovyan, Movses Khorenatsi and Mkhitar Gosh medals.
Henrik Igityan's contribution and merit in the spheres of national cultural development and dissemination, artistic education of children, as well as in the public activities is tremendous. Thanks to all of these he was widely recognized, respected and trusted on both in Armenia and abroad.
The memory of the famous and talented artist and a successful and clever figure will always stay in the hearts of the generations.
