Azerbaijan's security service robs Norwegian journalist
On May 6 morning, security workers of the Heydar Aliyev airport in Baku robbed the Norwegian journalist Erling Borgen and his cameraman, Dag Inge Dahl, Turan quoted Borgen as telling his Azerbaijani colleagues about the incident.
Borgen had come to Baku to shoot a film on jailed Azerbaijani journalist Eynulla Fatullayev. He said, the airport security workers seized his baggage and returned to him only half an hour later.
“They were very aggressive and stole important documents from my bag. They also stole and confiscated Mr. Borgen’s hard disk with six days of filming. What the security personnel did not know, was that they were tricked. Copies of the entire film-materiell are now in Oslo. The editing of the documentary, "A prisoner in Azerbaijan" (about Eynulla Fatullayev) will start very soon,” reads Borgen’s letter.
The security people also stole photos, memory sticks and memory cards.
"This says a lot about what kind of regime rules Azerbaijan today. They fear freedom of expression. I take this robbery very serious and have contacted the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the police," Erling Borgen said.
