In the final round of the World Chess Championship, underway in Sofia, Bulgaria, the world champion Viswanathan Anand and the Challenger Veselin Topalov performed a brilliant game for the fans. Anand won and this was a deserved victory. Though, Tapalov’s victory could also be a deserved one. Both players struggled as far as they could to avoid the logical draw.

Perhaps Topalov was quite convinced that Black could not advance. He took a risk and lost. So, with a series of precise moves, Anand managed to convert the advantage and bring victory home with the final score 6,5:5,5. Thus Anand retained the title of the World Chess Champion! Topalov will have to fight for the crown with the challengers in a tournament featuring also the Armenian GM Levon Aronian.
