Sochi hosts Cultural Olympics
From May 17th to the 20th, Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi is to host what has been named the Cultural Olympics, Russian media reported. The program of the Cultural Olympics implies many cultural events related to sports. On of them is a festival of biopics featuring outstanding Russian coaches and athletes. The program of the Cultural Olympics also contains different musical festivals including a concert featuring opera star Anna Netrebko and the conductor of the Mariynsky Theater Valery Gergiyev, the Igor Butman jazz festival and more.
The opening ceremony of the Sochi-2014 Cultural Olympics will be held here on Sunday. The Cultural Olympics will start with the Year of Cinema.
Each year of the Cultural Olympics will be dedicated to one of the types of arts: 2010 will be the Year of Cinema, 2011 – the Year of Theatre, 2012 – the Year of Music, and 2013 – the Year of Museums. The Cultural Olympics will be culminated in 2014, during the Winter Olympic Games, with presentation of the best project of the previous four years.
