Erdogan asks Aliyev to recognize Kosovo independence
Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev had a telconversation. As Musavat.com reports, Erdogan called Aliyev two days after his Baku visit over a request to recognize the Kosovo independence. About this Erdogan told Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi during their meeting in Ankara. Erdogan said at a joint press conference with Thaçi that "Kosovo fate is Turkey’s fate and Kosovo joy is Turkey’s joy”, adding that in the Balkans Kosovo is a “key country” of strategic importance for Turkey. “Along with having talks with my brother Thaçi today, I have also had telconversations with the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Qatar, Libya, Syria and even Greece and asked them to recognize Kosovo independence. Hopefully, the initiative will bear positive results in the upcoming future,” Erdogan said.
According to the source, during Serbian President Boris Tadic’s Baku visit last week, Aliyev announced that Kosovo unilateral separation from Serbia was an illegal step, which contradicts the international law. “Apparently, Erdogan didn’t get a positive answer from Aliyev,” Musavat.com writes.
