Presdent Sargsyan's disposition on establishing private schools in accordance with internationally accepted standards positive
Armenian Presdent Serzh Sargsyan has positive attitude towards establishing private schools in Armenia, in accordance with the internationally accepted standards, President’s spokesman Armen Arzumanyan told “Aravot” daily.
President’s press office was particularly asked what President’s disposition is on the currently discussed legislative amendments on establishing foreign-language schools in the republic.
In response, Armen Arzumanyan first said: “The issue of establishing private schools in Armenia, in accordance with the internationally accepted standards, is being currently discussed, not the one on establishing foreign-language schools,” then added: “Armenian President has positive attitude towards the issue.”
Referring to the causes of President’s disposition, A. Arzumanyan noted: “It will provide opportunity for gifted children to get education in Armenia, instead of leaving abroad. The studies of Armenian subjects will be a must in these schools. Due to these schools, children from Diaspora can get education in Armenia, to establish tighter relations with the motherland. The number of the schools will be limited by law and the establishment of every other school will be discussed by the Armenian government. The Education and Science Ministry, in turn, will bear responsibility for quality control. I regret that those against the law amendment are not familiar with the project details and take the issue to quite another sphere, bringing about turmoil in the public with their statements.”
Remind that the government has initiated bills on making amendments to the RA laws “About Language” and “About Education”. The National Assembly has brought them to agenda.
