Luzenberger voices hope EU-Armenia associative agreement to be signed shortly
9th EU-Armenia Subcommittee sitting on trade, economic and related legal issues has kicked off in Yerevan today.
The meeting will be co-chaired, by Mr. Mushegh Tumasyan, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, on the Armenian side, and by Mr. Philippe Cuisson, Deputy Head of Unit - "Europe (non EU) and Central Asia", Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission, on the EU side.
The head of the EU Commission delegation to Armenia Raul de Luzenberger said the EU working group has been in Armenia since January and they have conducted quite big work has been done with the Armenian Ministry of Economy.
The Ambassador signified the current meeting which, as he said, is being conducted prior to the signing of associative agreement between Armenia and EU. According to him, the talks on it are efficient. The Ambassador voiced hope that the agreement could be signed within a short period.
The topics under discussion at the subcommittee include macroeconomic developments in Armenia, recent developments in the EU-Armenia bilateral trade, prospects for establishing an EU-Armenia Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area , developments in a number of trade and investment related regulatory areas such as technical regulations and standards, Sanitary and phytosanitary issues, intellectual property rights and tax & customs issues. The subcommittee will also discuss EU trade-related assistance to Armenia, including preparations of the new Comprehensive Institution Building (CIB) programme.
