President Sargsyan signs law on digital TV channels
President Serzh Sargsyan signed the law on making amendments to the RA law “About TV and Radio” June 17, President’s press office reported.
Note that the Armenian National Assembly passed the bill on making amendments and supplements to the RA law “About TV and Radio” in a second reading at the extraordinary sitting last Thursday. The bill arose protests among the media field and experts.
According to the bill, Yerevan should have 18 TV companies instead of the current 22. The Competitive Licensing Process will get underway July 1 and will be due by January 31, 2011. The government has allocated 10-12 mln. AMD for digitalization of the TV channels. For transmission of the digital frequencies special equipment worth $50-60 will be required.
