German Armenian organizations make Armenian lobby more active

President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who is currently paying official visit to Germany, had a meeting with the representatives of Armenian community to Germany in “Adlon” hotel, Berlin.

The meeting got under way by the spiritual leader of German Armenian community Archbishop Garegin Bekchyan’s opening speech. The Holy Father has briefly informed the community’s prerequisites and the challenges to be met today.

The head of German Armenian central council Adam Ordukhanyan has also talked about the every day affairs and the history of the community. He said about 60 thousand Armenians are believed to live in Germany. The head of the community said another 60 thousand, regretfully, are Islamic Armenians who do their best to return to their roots having communication with local Armenians.

Talking about the casual life of the community, the interlocutors told about 40 Armenian organizations, 13 of which are united under the community function in Germany. The structure deals with the matters troubling the community, but their key focus are the political affairs.

In this respect, Andranik Aznavuryan, the political expert for the community introduced the President the political affairs under way. He said the two basic directions are Artsakh issue and the recognition of the Genocide.

Talking about the Armenian Genocide issue, Andranik Aznavuryan said the Armenian side isn’t satisfied with Bundestag resolution adopted several years ago, where the term Genocide gives hesitations. He said, they want new document to be adopted which would define Genocide more clearly. “This is a hard job, but it’s not impossible,” Andranik Aznavuryan ensured.

The expert said Genocide issue has been much covered and talked about, but Artsakh conflict issue needs more work, active campaign. “The Azerbaijani greatly finance the campaign, they’ve launched a huge lobby with Turkey,” Andranik Aznavuryan said stating that to counter-attack it’s needed to make organizational transformations in Armenian lobby.

He had an already prepared recipe with him: “to join the efforts of the community and of Armenian Government.” It’s necessary that Armenian communities have mutual and usual meetings with Ambassadors of their residential countries in order the activities and the dispositions are verified.

President Sargsyan commented on the recommendation: “This is in fact a very useful recommendation.” President ensured the diplomatic representations of Armenia would launch more active communication with local communities. Serzh Sargsyan also stated that similar meetings took place when the President, PM, Chairman of National Assembly and other officials make foreign visits.

It’s worth stating that the German Armenians were mainly concerned with Artsakh conflict. In this respect, the President talked about the Armenian disposition. Armenia’s social-economic conditions, ties with Turkey and other issues have also been touched upon.

After the meeting the participants shared with their feelings, saying they’re impressed by President’s visit, their meeting and the answers to their questions.

To conclude, the impression was really so deep that even after the President’s departure from the meeting place, the participants stood long there and discussed their meeting with President Serzh Sargsyan.
