Armenian President to H. Clinton: Nagorno Karabakh people has right to freely master its fate in its historical land
“I am convinced that U.S. Secretary of State’s long-awaited visit to the Republic of Armenia will make much contribution to the deepening of Armenia-America relations as well as will contribute to strengthening of peace and atmosphere of mutual confidence in our region,” Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan declared at his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
According to President’s press office, the President said:
“I sincerely congratulate you on the occasion of the United States Independence Day, I wish peace, well-being and further prosperity to the friendly United States people. I also want to thank the United States government, you personally for political, economic and technical support to the Republic of Armenia.
I would like to single out two circumstances: the United States has made a contribution to the Nagorno Karabakh problem settlement for many years. The most important problem faced by the Armenian people at present is the Nagorno Karabakh problem resolution in line with the principles of international law.
The Nagorno Karabakh people has the right to freely master its fate and to develop in its historic land. This right is inseparable, and it is the exercise of this right that makes many peoples of the world happy today. I am grateful for your support and efforts in this issue.”
The U.S. Secretary of State is in Yerevan within the framework of her visit to Eastern Europe and South Caucasus.
