The apartment construction works implemented by the Glendale Hills construction company with state sponsorship have been completed. The apartments are intended for homeless families in Gyumri.

The Mush-2 district was officially launched today in Gyumri, with 22 residential houses having 1056 apartments.

Glendale Hills Director General Vahe Almoyan told correspondents in Gyumri: “The project did not envisage gas boilers, gas stoves, wash basins, gas supply, yet it was also done. The company did it at its own expense, paying for meters, gas stoves, turning on gas boiler taking into consideration the poor financial condition of the homeless.”

Mr. Almoyan noted that the district was built within a very short time, with an accent on the social problem.

“We could bring quality specialists but we preferred suggesting the very Gyumri residents to carry out the construction works,” he mentioned adding that therefore some shortcomings were noticed, however, they were corrected.

After the destructive earthquake of 1988 the number of homeless in the Shirak region reached 4245. Therefore, on Armenian President’s immediate initiative, construction works were launched in the town of Gyumri, Shirak region in 2009 to solve the problem of homeless.

This year, it was planned to put into operation 1056 apartments in 22 residential houses: 440 - 1 room apartments, 352 - 2 room apartments and 264 - 3 room apartments. The apartments have all modern conveniences, with playing grounds in the yards, the area is planted with trees and shrubs, night illumination is installed.

Note that construction of 37 residential houses with 1949 apartments has been also launched this year. 5 out of them are being built in the Ani district and 32 in Mish district. The construction is planned to be completed next year. Construction works will be also launched in other communities of the region in 2011.
