Azeri police officers threaten to cut off opposition leader's head in Nakhichevan
On Sunday about 15 officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Nakhchivan burst into the house of Faig Aliyev, chairman of the local branch office of Umid opposition party, Turan reported.
Among the intruders were Gulu Rustamov, chief of the Criminal Investigation Department and Askar Guliyev, chief of the Department to Combat Banditry and Terrorism.
The policemen tore Aliyev’s shirt, threatened to “cut off his head” and used violence against his spouse.
Policemen demanded that he should come to the police station. Faig Aliyev called journalists and human rights activists. Faig Aliyev said he does not know the reason of police intrusion, but he does not rule out that this is related to his running for parliamentary elections. He said he also received telephone calls with threats and warnings.
The attempts to contact the police have brought no results. Faig Aliyev called the Minister of Internal Affairs Ahmad Ahmadov, who said that policemen have come to his house “by mistake”, because the operation had to take place at another address.
