Amnesty International addresses letter to Ilham Aliyev to support jailed bloggers
Amnesty International has launched the campaign to support Azerbaijani bloggers Adnan Hajizada and Emin Milli, who have been sentenced on the framed-up charge, Turan reported.
They placed Adnan’s picture on the web site with the information about reasons of his arrest and another blogger Emin Milli. The information says that the reason of bloggers’ arrest and conviction was their public activities and posting a video criticizing corruption in Azerbaijan.
The bloggers were charged with hooliganism and sentenced to 2 and 2,5-years of imprisonment, though neither investigation, nor court proved their guilt.
The web site visitors are offered to sign the letter addressed to President Ilham Aliyev, which expresses concern over the conviction of two Azerbaijani youth activists, Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade, “prisoners of conscience” who are in detention solely for peacefully exercising their right to freedom of expression.
“As Azerbaijan is a party to the European Convention on Human Rights, your government has an obligation to protect the right to freedom of expression.I sincerely urge you to use all appropriate authority under your remit to uphold the right to freedom of expression of Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade and set them free without delay,” the letter says.
